September by the sea

September by the sea

For decades, Scarborough was known as ‘the tonic holiday’ destination – you can be the gin!

Throw yourself into our thriving local cultural scene with this.

Always Been Here at Scarborough Art Gallery

Always Been Here pieces together the voices and artefacts of Scarborough’s queer heritage at Scarborough Art Gallery this Autumn. Through a process of collaborative engagement with local queer people, the exhibition brings together unique perspectives on works from the Scarborough Museums and Galleries permanent collection, presenting them alongside objects of personal significance to the local queer community for the first time.

Scarborough Pride

We at LOCL Properties believe that every month is Pride month, but Scarborough’s very own Pride event on the 30th of September at Scarborough Spa is the ideal opportunity to don some sequins and demonstrate our allyship! Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK will recognise this year’s fabulous headliner, Cheryl Hole! Entry is free; however, the timings are still yet to be announced so keep your eyes peeled for announcements on the Scarborough Spa website: https://www.scarboroughspa.co.uk/whats-on/scarborough-pride

Sir Alan Ayckbourn at The Stephen Joseph Theatre

It could be said that we sometimes take it for granted that Britain’s greatest living playwright lives (and writes) right here in Scarborough. Theatre goers flock to the SJT every year for the ‘Ayckbourn pilgrimage’ to catch his latest play. Constant Companions will be Ayckbourn’s 89th play, but in addition to this world premiere, there will be a one-off rehearsed reading of a lost pandemic era play The Truth Will Out on the 17th of September. Book ASAP to avoid missing out: www.sjt.uk.com/events

Young Scarborough Artists at Mandy Apple

The Mandy Apple Collective have launched a gallery/arts hub in town. Having opened with ‘Gone Feral’, an exhibition of works by craftivist Imo Sophia, their latest offering Young Scarborough Artists – a showcase of budding local creatives is free to view throughout September. Don’t forget to have a look around their shop, they sell artworks and crafted creations to take home. A souvenir with a personal touch.

Postcard Open Call at North Yorks Art School

It’s raining again? No problem! NYAS offer fun and accessible art classes across a range of mediums from their studio in South Cliff, but you can now submit your work for this special prize from home. Have you ever dreamed of people buying your art? This is your moment, take it!
